Consider possibility of pneumonia however based upon chest x-ray, pulmonary exam, and vital signs, and history there is no evidence of a pneumonia secondary to the rib fractures at this time
Considered possibility of flail chest however chest x-ray is not consistent with this finding nor is examination and given patient has no respiratory distress this is exceedingly unlikely.
There is no evidence of open rib fractures protruding through skin normal rib fractures injuring any of the vital organs in the chest.
Plan
Analgesia
Inspiratory flow to minimize risk of pneumonia
Return precautions specifically for pneumonia or development of pneumothorax.
