The sign out note generator is an interactive widget which allows the user to input key information in the transfer of care of patients. The information is populated into a note and the items  are pending at the time of signing out are placed below as a reminder for the accepting physician to ensure completion of those items.  Transfer of care of patients is a known high-risk procedure fraught with errors and structured systems reduce preventable errors. (Starmer et al. 2012). Integration of the structured sign-out process into the electronic medical record system has been studied and revealed that such a system improved patient care and safety.
